a cup of coffee with god...

Morning and how we step into it can paint the rest of our day. Some of us jump out of bed and hit the ground running, others get up and do yoga or meditate. We may not feel we have much of a choice as the outer world comes pouring in...that even 10-15 minutes for ourselves is asking too much.

Joe and I both love the early morning and agreed years ago that the house would be in silence until a certain time (when we were working it was 5:30 am; now that we’re retired it’s 7:00 am.) It is a sacred time for writing down my dreams, meditation, inspirational reading, whatever is calling to me. Every morning I quietly go into the kitchen, get a cup of coffee, and go back upstairs to my reading chair, the dawn light just entering the skylight.

The first thing I do is have a cup of coffee with God...an inner conversation where I talk...and I listen...and I feel. Often unexplained tears rise...tears of joy...of sadness...feeling into what wants to be felt...hearing what wants to be heard...in the simple moment over a quiet cup of coffee...allowing space for this precious inner connection with the Divine. And from that place I step into my day...
